ASVAB Test - January 19, 2012
ASVAB is a Career Exploration Program that helps students to discover potential careers that are related to their skills and interests. The ASVAB test is offered by the U.S. Military but does not obligate you to a military career or to talk to recruiters. The program includes a multiple-aptitude test battery, an interest inventory, and career planning tools. Students interested in gaining career direction or planning to enlist in the military are encouraged to try the ASVAB Career Exploration program offered at York Catholic.
Mock Interviews for Seniors
In early December, the Guidance Department will be scheduling seniors for a ten minute "mock" interview with a human resource professional to gain experience with the interviewing process. Students will answer questions about themselves in regards to career interest, academic courses taken, leadership and activities, and personal strengths. This practice interview will help prepare students for scholarship interviews, summer job and internship interviews, and career/job interviews. Students will be given more details shortly.

York County Alliance for Learning Mentoring Programs
Mentoring programs are available in York County for high school juniors and seniors with a strong interest in the following careers: architecture, banking, construction, engineering, insurance, entrepreneurship, I.T., the hotel and hospitality industry, human services, accounting, culinary arts, fine arts, and law enforcement. Information about each program can be seen at www.ycal.us. In 2010-2011, twelve York Catholic students participated in the various mentoring programs and found them to be exciting and worthwhile. While each program runs a little differently, they are basically after school progrms once a month (or twice for the ACE Mentoring) from late afternoon to early evening from October until May. Each program includes hands on projects; students gain valuable knowledge from the mentors; and some programs even feed you supper. All York County schools may participate. Students should apply by mid-September in order to participate in the program for that current school year. Please see Mrs. Hess in the Guidance Office if you have any questions.
